Oncology and Oncosurgery
Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. It encompasses various disciplines such as medical oncology, which focuses on the use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy to treat cancer; radiation oncology, which uses radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells; and surgical oncology, which involves surgical procedures to remove cancerous tumors and surrounding tissues. Oncosurgery, also known as surgical oncology, is a specialized field within surgery that focuses on the surgical management of cancer. Surgical oncologists are trained to perform complex surgical procedures to remove tumors while preserving as much healthy tissue and function as possible. They work closely with other oncology specialists, such as medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, to develop comprehensive treatment plans for cancer patients. Advances in surgical techniques, imaging technology, and personalized medicine have greatly improved outcomes for cancer patients undergoing oncosurgical procedures.
