Pediatric Cardiology
Pediatric cardiology is the branch of medicine that specializes in diagnosing and treating heart conditions in infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatric cardiologists are medical doctors who have completed additional training in the diagnosis and management of congenital and acquired heart diseases in young patients. They are experts in assessing and monitoring the structure and function of the heart, as well as in interpreting diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and cardiac catheterizations in pediatric populations. Treatment options may include medication, catheter-based interventions, and surgical procedures such as open-heart surgery or heart transplantation. Pediatric cardiologists work closely with other specialists, including pediatric cardiac surgeons, pediatricians, neonatologists, and genetic counselors, to provide comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of children with heart conditions.
